Sustainable Tourism and Income Generation in the Sapphaya Community

It all begins with the crucial idea of sustainability in tourism and income generation within the Sapphaya community. This must stem from a unified goal within the community to develop tourism sustainably, emphasizing the importance of creating participation where everyone has roles, responsibilities, benefits, and shares accountability. Sapphaya is a small community dedicated to providing a space where descendants can visit, return to work after completing their studies, and live close to their parents who eagerly await their return home every night. The Sapphaya sub-district municipality has another aspiration, which is to become a nurturing figure for the community by:

1.Establishing a committee to work on community-based tourism, setting common goals.

2.Providing knowledge about the importance of revitalizing tourism destinations until they become attractive and create an identity that everyone wants to visit.

3.Developing community products for income generation and organizing green market activities where everyone participates in market management, from selecting activities, setting regulations, training vendors to go green, and ensuring proper market standards are in place.

All of these efforts demonstrate that sustainable tourism and continuous income generation for the community are not about injecting funds to organize markets on each occasion but about creating community readiness processes. This enables communities to manage themselves and present interesting products, thus generating income for the community in the long term.
