The community around the Sapphaya Old Police Station market area used to flourish and thrive. It served as a ferry terminal transporting people to Bangkok. The community's way of life was closely tied to the Chao Phraya River, and it was a culturally rich and diverse community. In the past, local residents and their children would bathe and play in the river, enjoying themselves along the sandy banks, which used to be hazardous due to the risk of drowning. This caused much concern among the villagers, who were hesitant to let their children play in the water. Consequently, the children of Samphaya are now less inclined to swim.
Today, the old Sapphaya market has become the starting point for its development into a tourist attraction managed by the "Sapphaya Old Market Restoration Association." The association comprises members from various sectors, including local residents, government officials, and private individuals. They all participate in decision-making and setting directions for tourism management, with a focus on environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and cultural preservation.
